BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) -- One person is in custody following a shooting on Friday night that left a woman dead, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's office.
Deputies responded to the 1100 block of Hudson Avenue in the Eastern Valley area around 7:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting. They arrived to find 66-year-old Janice Stamps suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to an area hospital where she died.
Information from the scene shows that the victim was shot by her brother after he pulled a handgun in the middle of an argument.
The suspect Thomas Hopkins, 62, told deputies that he shot his sister because she was yelling at him. He was arrested and charged with Murder.
Thomas Hopkins remains in the Jefferson County Jail and his bond is set at $75,000.
