It's a crime that has shaken a community: one that left a woman, loved by family and friends, dead.
62 year old Janice King was found shot to death at the H and H Laundry just before 6:30 Sunday evening. Gadsden Police Captain Troy Higdon says as many as four suspects burst into the building around six p-m. "From what we've been able to determine they robbed the attendant and the attendant was shot," Higdon says of the investigation.
One man who works just around the corner, says the laundry is a neighborhood icon. And he calls king a lovely woman. Ed Kelly says the murder is a big blow to the entire neighborhood. "I mean yeah, it's a lower class neighborhood, i guess you might say. But everybody knows everybody. Everybody's pretty much family orientated. They look out for one another around here."
Captain Higdon says his investigators have been doing interviews all day and have taken one person into custody. But right now, they're stopping short of calling that person a suspect. "He's still being detained," says Higdon. "It's possible he was a participant, and if nothing else, he's got some information that we're looking for," Higdon adds. As for now, the GPD are still looking for all the information they can so they can make an air tight capitol murder case.
