A Birmingham man has been missing since the July 4th weekend of 1999. His family is waiting for answers, while Jefferson County sheriff's deputies wait for a break in this case.
Eight years is a long time to wait.
"It's hard not knowing. All these years not knowing anything.”
Bobbie Rogers has been doing her best to stay strong this Thanksgiving. With the recent death of her nephew, Carl, and the disappearance of her brother Darrell Moneyham, she needs to be strong for her family.
"All we want is closure or for him to come home, because we love him,” said Rogers.
Rogers has been waiting for her brother Darrell to come home since 1999.
“July 3rd, Darrell was going to come here and help me grill,” said Rogers.
Darrell Moneyham's family made plans to get together on the Fourth of July to celebrate, as they do most holidays.
"He called me, he said sis, its getting late, I'm not going to come. I said ok, boy you had me waiting all this time. He said, that's alright, I'll see you all tomorrow. We didn't see him, he didn't call,” said Rogers.
That was especially odd, considering the close relationship he shared with his family and his mother.

“If she called Darrell, Darrell would be right there. He never missed a day of calling. If he didn't show his face, he'd always call,” said Rogers.
Darrell was a family man, with a wife and two beautiful children. And when he failed to come home, Darrell's sister Bobbie decided to get the police involved.
"From the very beginning his situation was suspicious.”
Detective David Agee has been with the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office for three of the eight years Darrell has been missing and understands his family's frustration with the lack of answers in this case.
"People want answers and we want to provide those answers. We want to do everything we can. We want to check everything we can and at some point there is nothing else to check. We're just waiting for new information,” said Agee.
Information that someone may be able to provide…
“If there’s anybody out there that knows anything, please call the sheriff,” said Rogers.
If you have any information that will help close this case you are urged to call the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office.
