Bessemer Police confirm that missing Jess Lanier High School basketball coach Harvey Tharpe was found alive and unharmed this morning.
Detective Mac McKisson says Tharpe called him on his personal cell phone and met him at a public, undisclosed location to prove to police that he is not hurt or in any danger.
Police found his vehicle yesterday near Legion Field, abandoned and empty with the keys inside; the vehicle was turned over to his wife Lisa Tharpe Friday.
Tharpe had last been seen Tuesday at the high school and agencies including the U.S. Marshalls, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Bessemer and Birmingham Police Departments have spent hundreds of hours searching for him.
McKisson says Tharpe gave no information about where he had been or what he had been doing.
