2 in custody after standoff with Mountain Brook PD

MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. (WIAT) - Two men are in custody following a standoff with Mountain Brook Police late Tuesday night.

Owners of a home on Woodhill Circle had recently purchased the house and had just started moving things in, according to a relative of the owners. The relative drove by to check on the house, which had been burglarized the day before.

The family member saw a work van parked at the home, although no one was supposed to be working on the home at that time. The relative noticed a man inside the home and called the police.

When officers arrived, they established a perimeter around the home. According to Mountain Brook Police, officers tried making contact with the suspect by knocking on windows and doors, but the suspect locked the doors.

Mountain Brook Police contacted Birmingham Police K-9 units for assistance. The K-9s searched the home and police were able to locate the suspects in a crawl space under the basement.

The incident is still under investigation and charges will be filed once the investigation is complete.
