Chelsea community helps family who lost home in fire

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Chelsea community is coming together to help a family who just lost their home.

The Britt Family lost their home Monday while they were away attending a funeral for a close family member.

They were dealt two different situations at the same time and now they have to find a new home.

Their youngest child attends Chelsea Middle School and plays on the softball team.

Coach Racheal Trice and the rest of the softball team decided to reach out to the community to help the Britt Family with anything they may need.

"My role is just to be the coach to step in to start something for us and as it has went on it has spread and it is truly a blessing for this family," said Trice.

Trice says she's received an overwhelming response from people wanting to help. She's hoping she can help her softball player feel as supported as possible.

"My hope is that as a softball family we're just going to be able to lift her up so that she can focus on getting back to playing the sport that she loves and all the other needs will be taken care of," said Trice.

Trice is asking the community to drop off any of the items listed below at Chelsea Middle School on Friday between 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
