Former governor Don Siegelman released from the hospital following emergency open heart surgery


Don Siegelman was released from St. Vincent's Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Siegelman underwent emergency open heart surgery performed by cardiologist Dr. John Richardson on Friday. An arteriogram showed dangerous blockage that could have led to death from a heart attack. 

Joseph Siegelman, Don Siegelman's son, released the following statement:

My dad was Blessed to be in the right place at the right time.  Dr. Parks' discovery was able to be followed by surgery by a renowned heart surgeon, Dr. Richardson, who by the Grace of God was available to operate immediately.

Former governor Don Siegelman underwent by-pass surgery over the weekend. 

The St. Vincent's Health System released the following statement on Siegelman's behalf: 

Former Governor Don Siegelman is in good condition after by-pass surgery on Friday. A full recovery is expected, according to heart surgeon Dr. John Richardson.

Siegelman asks that his privacy be respected during his recovery.
