BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Valentine's Day is just around the corner and if you're still planning your drink menu, why not look for a dessert wine?
Dessert and Fortified wines have increased in popularity by nearly 30% over the past year. You'll find more complexity in fortified and dessert wines than table wines because of the elaborate techniques used to create them. That means unique characteristics that pair perfectly alongside rich flavors, such as deserts, or can be enjoyed alone as a dessert.
Perry's Steakhouse & Grille recently introduced a new fortified wine, PassionNut for Port. Port is the most revered wine of Portugal and is considered one of the most sought-after sweet, fortified wines in the world. Port gets better with age and remains good long after it's been opened. Perry's uses Fonseca Bin27 Port for the new cocktail that's made with DonQ Coconut Rum, Passion Fruit puree and fresh pressed lemon juice.
Guests can also enjoy other dessert wine-based cocktails and other drinks like the Rose Collins and Jameson Mocha Old Fashioned. Those can be paired with a variety of dishes from Perry's.
Perry's is offering a special Valentine's Day menu. The three-course, prix-fixe menu includes a soup or salad starter, signature entree and dessert. The menu is $59.95 per person before 5:30 p.m. and $74.95 per person after 5:45 p.m.
