Oxford High School Student facing charges after reportedly writing threatening graffiti

OXFORD, Ala. (WIAT) - An Oxford High School student is facing charges after reportedly writing a threatening message in the school's restroom, according to Capt. L.G. Owens with Oxford Police.

The school's custodial staff found the message on Tuesday while cleaning a restroom in the building, and police were notified by school administrators between 2 and 3 p.m. The student was identified through a review of the school's camera systems, according to Owens.

The student, a 16-year-old girl, wrote the message towards a group of students, and not one student in particular, according to Owens. The student reportedly told officials that she wrote it because she felt things at the school went unattended and she wanted to see how school administration would react to it. Owens has stated that the message was racial in nature.

Chief Bill Partridge has stated that the message was an attempt to disrupt classes on Wednesday, and that the high school and law enforcement would be taking action and charges were forthcoming.
